What are Housing Choice Vouchers?
The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program offers assistance to eligible low-income families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities afford safe and stable housing. The program provides families with the opportunity to choose and rent units in the private rental market that meet program standards for safety and affordability. Tenants pay a portion of the rent based roughly 30% of their income, while WRHA covers the remaining portion of the rent through direct payments to the property owner.

Project-Based Vouchers
The Project-Based Voucher Program is WRHA’s newest affordable housing initiative. This Program provides rental assistance tied to specific housing units rather than to an individual family. The assistance remains with the unit, even if a family moves out.
Current PBV Partnerships
WRHA currently partners with Fairfax Hall to administer the Project Based Voucher Program.
Fairfax Hall provides affordable housing for qualified individuals over the age of 55
Landlord Engagement
WRHA values partnerships with local property owners to provide safe, decent and affordable housing. Landlords and property managers play a vital role in helping WRHA broaden affordable housing options.
Research shows that Housing Choice Voucher tenants are generally longer-term tenants compared to non-voucher renters.
